I Am Looking for a Sympathetic Pain Management Doctor in Fort Wort Area…?

Question by cordn8or22: I am looking for a sympathetic pain management Doctor in Fort Wort area…?
I am tired of being treated like a criminal for being in pain. I was in a car accident about 7 years ago and have been in sever pain since. I have had multiple back surgeries and need disk replacements on L5 and L4. I used to be fit and a runner but since I have gain 100 lbs due not being able to be active and depression. I have lived with the pain for years but up until about 2 years ago it just got too bad. I have tried injections, physical therapies and massage therapy. I need pain meds so i can be active so I can have surgery. I am so tired of feeling guilty for asking. Please Help! I am at my wits end.
Let me clarify, I am not looking for meds as a fix for my pain or a way to get high. I need to loose weight to have the disk replacement surgery and the meds are needed to allow me to function as a normal human until then. This is a temporary solution to allow me to get to a place to have a permanent fix through surgery. You don’t know what is it is like to be 28 years old and not be able to bend down and tie your own shoes or go hang out with friends because you are in so much pain or just run or go on walks. I can sit down for more than 20 mins, I haven’t slept a full night of sleep in 2 years and I and just physically and mentally tired.

I think I am willing to take the risk of addiction(which if is taken as prescribed and under guidance under a doctor has a low addiction factor) I have done so much research on this and now just need a doctor.

The thing about pain medicine is that it can be really addictive. They don’t want to give it to you because they don’t want you addicted. It’s likely that if you’ve been in severe pain for seven years, you probably always will. You can’t spend the rest of your life on pain medications, because you will get addicted, and it will cause many more health problems in the future.

I don’t live in Fort Worth, but I understand your need. Pain management and physical therapy is a measure to avoid surgery or to allow patients to build strength and manage their pain so they can recover from the surgery when it is performed. Many people do not realize how invasive back surgery can be, and how risky it can be, esp in older patients. Pain management also helps those whose conditions cannot be helped by surgery.
Nerve pain can be HORRIBLE, and I had a friend (who was hit by a drunk driver) who has little to no use in her left arm because of the accident. Her arm was pinned, destroying nerves, muscle, ect. There is nothing that can be done but try to manage her pain. She has had multiple surgeries in the past on the affected arm. I have NEVER seen her addicted to pain meds (she takes Oxycontin). I have also seen her in severe pain, WHILE taking these meds. Some people genuinely need these meds to survive. Those folks that abuse these medications unfortunately have made it harder for the rest of us. NO ONE should have to endure severe pain, so don’t feel guilty.
As far as providers; if you have insurance, check with your insurance (website, by phone, ect) to get a list of providers in the network. This will also help you ensure that you get your in network benefits. If not, ask around, and check the web. Research the names you find to help you choose the right doctor. Make sure they are board certified anesthesiologists and also board certified in pain management.
I am currently in pain management for spondylolistesis (two injections and physical therapy so far) and I am not addicted to narcotics, muscle relaxants or any other drugs. I don’t drink or smoke. You also have to consent to drug testing as part of your treatment. There is NOTHING wrong with being in pain management (as long as you follow ALL instructions), but there IS something wrong with being in so much pain that you can’t live your life. Your doctor will not just give you the strongest drug out there at the maximum dose. They will start at the minimum dose to help with the habit-forming nature of these drugs. Also pain management specialists don’t just prescribe pain-killers, they also perform injections and other procedures to help with pain.
As long as you follow the rules and obey all instructions, there is no reason to feel guilty.
