Help Finding New Doc?

Question by dsipp79: Help finding new doc?
I have been on dilaudid 4mg for chronic neck pain/headaches for over 5 months now, I was up to 4/day, I have since moved back to the Kansas City area and am having real problems finding a doctor to help me at all, I had one give me a 2 week supply, and one give me 20 vicodin 5mg which don’t even dent my pain, I’m not trying to kill the pain I just want it to be down to a level I can stand. I have a bulged disc at c3 and have tried many other therapies for the pain/headaches but the only thing that makes the pain low enough where I can at least get out of bed, go to work, and try to live a productive life is the opiates. if anyone knows a doc closer to me that would sympathize I’d really appreciate it..
I guess I also forgot to mention I currently have no insurance and live in a state where I can’t get medicaid because I do work even though I don’t make enough to go to a pain management doctor that needs $ 600 on the first visit. and yes I know the risks of the medication, I’ve seen it abused by close members of my family, and I too have abused it but now have done that a few times in the past and know the pain I have to go through if I run out early, which happened easy since once I have a good doctor I stick with that one.
Well I wish I had never abused them actually, then I might not have the tolerance I do, but now that I am in actual daily pain from my throat hitting my steering wheel at 50mph in a car accident it’s hard to get any help, the times I abused them were when I had extras from having dental work or something minor. I know it’s hard to tell who’s really in pain and who isn’t, I watch my sister go into ER’s and doctors offices acting like I do when I really am in pain knowing she isn’t hurting at all.

Use this link and look about 1/2 down the page on the right side. You will see a state by state locator tool.

If you are really looking for a doctor to treat your pain and not just one that feels sorry for you. http://pain.com

But I wouldn’t go in there telling him what you have just written here because it sounds just like common pain medication ABUSE logic. I’ve heard the same ‘ the doctor doesn’t understand’ so many times. I use to say it to myself!!

I know because I use to abuse them myself until I got smart and found a pain management clinic and stopped self medicating

Here are a few pain management type sites that I use
http://www.spine-health.com/
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002971.htm
http://health.discovery.com/centers/pain/pain.html
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/chronic-pain/AR00017

And just in case you haven’t heard the DEA is cracking down hard on doctor shopping. ANY doctor you go to can access your Rx history from any doctor and any pharmacy. They do it every day.

I’ve been in a pain management program for several years and I have seen so many good people ruin their lives with pain meds. And not one of them started off by thinking “I’m going to destroy my life”,,,,, it’s always “I just need a little ‘help’.”

And it’s not that I’m down on pain meds or getting addicted,,,Addiction is a medical condition that the same doctor that got you addicted can get you off safely when you no longer need the meds. I’m addicted to pain meds and will be for the rest of my life thanks to a drunk driver. Addiction is not a problem,,,abuse is.

I take hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine sulphate, Neurontin, Soma and about 3 other drugs every single day for a cervical spine injury.

If you have a legit medical condition with your spine you will not have any problems getting proper treatment and medications.
Sympathy has nothing to do with a doctor giving, or not giving you medications.

EDIT: I didn’t have any insurance and I didn’t qualify for medicaid either. Try your local County Medical Services Office or seek out a pain clinic that treats people based on what they can pay.

Or look for a medical school in your area. The Kansas City area has both. The KU and the University of Mo., Columbia have great spine clinics that accepts patients based on condition, not how much they can pay. Insurance, or lack of it has nothing to do with a doctor not giving meds.

And you added you use to abuse them,,,,you are kidding yourself,,, if you are looking for a pain doctor on Yahoo you still are,, you just haven’t ‘scored yet’
Please read the last comment YOU made about how it bothers you that your sister get pain meds from the ER for no reason and you can’t and you are in pain. YOU are a drug abuser,, the sooner you face it the sooner you can get help.

Here is a good link for you to look at,,it may not seem like it, but I’m trying to help you. I’ve been down the road you are headed for and it’s hell,,,

Your question and comments fit the profile of pain medication abuse like you were the poster child for it!!

Here is another site you need to check out. I hope you find help soon. The path you are heading down leads to only 3 possible endings. Jail, death from an OD, a destroyed life.

Please at least take a look at it and at yourself. Or the folks at this link may become your friends soon.
